For 25 years, we—sisters Cory and Nicol—hid behind the cultural stigma of pelo malo (bad hair), until a life-threatening hospital stay in 2016 reminded us that life is too short to hide. We finally stopped apologizing for our natural curls and set out to build the luxury brand our community was missing.

Building OCOA was an eight-year gauntlet of perseverance against an industry that didn't take us seriously. As mothers and outsiders, we refused to give up, overcoming massive hurdles to bring our vision to life:
