We are sisters and immigrants from the Dominican Republic.
Like many Dominican girls, we grew up ashamed of our natural hair texture. We thought straightening our hair was the only way to be beautiful.
That’s why, we took matters into our own hands and created Ocoa.
Our purpose is to honor curly-haired Latina women, like you, while we help you find confidence in your authentic natural beauty by using luxe, clean, minimal ingredients from nuestra tierra (our homeland) and la cultura (our culture.)
Un abrazo,
Cory and Nicol co-founders
The Ocoa sisterhood logo symbolizes the relationship of our two founders (hermanas), as well as the broader sisterhood of women.
Our design is in English when it’s right side up, and in Spanish when it’s flipped over mirroring our immigrant journey of living in two worlds.
Ocoa Beauty goes beyond hair care. We want to stop hair assimilation so future generations embrace their authentic beauty. It is a brand that reflects cultural representation, self-love and the discovery of who you are #BornToBe.
Everyone is welcomed into the sisterhood of gorgeous curls.
Ocoa (O-ko-a) means a place between mountains in the extinct indigenous Taino language. Ocoa is a city in the Dominican Republic (DR) and also our mom’s hometown.
Ocoa is located in the southern region of the island, and it’s well known for its agriculture. While its main crops are coffee and beans it is also home to tropical fruits like avocado and mango.
Visiting family and friends in Ocoa was one of the most joyful experiences we had during our childhood. That’s when we realized the idea for this business has always been rooted in our heritage and who we are #BornToBe.
