Winter Scalp Care and Styling Tips

❄️ Cold season is here! Though we love wintertime, we still have to admit it's the harshest period for curly hair. Don't let your hair become a victim of this cold weather, keep on reading to discover our scalp care and styling tips.

Scalp care during winter:

It's important to keep your scalp clean, no matter what the season is. Try scalp scrubs to remove dirt, flakes, and build-up.  A detox and scalp refresh to try at home is an apple cider vinegar ACV rinse. Simply mix equal parts water and ACV in a jar after you shampoo. Use the mix to rinse and freshen your scalp. Though this isn't absolutely necessary, it can be very beneficial to wear a beanie or hat outside to protect your scalp from environmental damage and keep it warm. We love satin lined hats/beanies to protect our curls.

Winter styling tips:

  • Deep condition

Keeping your hair moisturized is key!! A deep conditioning treatment once a month will get the job done. Remember that too much of anything is bad so please don't go overboard with deep conditioning. Our go to DIY recipe is mixing: 2 tbsp of olive oil, 1 small whole avocado and 1 tbsp of honey for a quick and easy home-made deep conditioner. Apply for 5-15 minutes and then wash and style as usual.

  • Never walk outside or go to sleep with wet hair

It's already cold outside, the last thing you want to deal with is wet hair! If you're going to wear your hair in its curly state, make sure to dry it completely using a diffuser or a hooded dryer.

  • Trim or dust those ends

The winter weather already makes it a bit harder to retain length. Since our ends are the oldest and most delicate parts of our hair, it's critical that we keep them healthy. Split Ends never stop splitting, the only way to get rid of them is to cut them off. You should be getting a trim every 8-10 weeks to ensure that your ends won't split and break off.

  • Add hydrating creams

Wintertime is a great time to use a leave-in cream to style your hair. Different hair types will have different needs. A leave-in cream helps with dry hair that needs extra care. If your hair is weakened, you probably need to add in some protein. Our Curl Cream has a blend of amino acids, oils extracts (Quinoa/Hibiscus) and vegetable protein suited for everything your curly hair needs during the winter.

  • Great tips!!!! I never really gave it much thought about switching up the hair care routine for the winter time but it is necessary. I’m definitely going to try the DIY deep condition and the ACV rinse.
