For so many of us in the Latino community, our curly hair journey has been long, and deeply emotional. This month, we are celebrating how far we have come, reclaiming the narrative surrounding our beautiful curls, and building a culturally connected community. The "Pelo Malo" Stigma Explained Growing up, so many of us were taught to call our natural texture "pelo malo" (bad hair). We watched the women in our families sleep in curlers, rely on harsh relaxers, or endure endless blowouts just to make their hair look straight to fit Eurocentric beauty standards. We internalized the idea that our natural texture was something that needed to be fixed, tamed, or hidden with heavy curly hair products that weighed down our confidence as much as our curls. Whether you are heading out to a pumpkin patch or just grabbing a warm coffee, finding fun and protective ways to style your natural texture makes getting ready a breeze. Because the cooling autumn environment naturally lacks moisture, your curls crave a little extra hydration to maintain their bounce. Embracing a simplified approach ensures your natural texture remains healthy, deeply moisturized, and beautiful all season long. Here are three simple, gorgeous hairstyles you can easily recreate this season. 1. The half-up, half-down bubble braid adds incredible dimension while letting your beautiful curly texture shine through at the bottom.
